News - Royal Concertgebouw turns to PLC

Perry Hoogendijk, Principal Tuba with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in the Netherlands has commissioned Paul Lovatt-Cooper to compose a tuba solo for him.

The piece which was completed in September is called “Quicksilver” and it is a concert showcase for the E flat Bass. Quicksilver is in three sections: fast-slow-fast with the fast sections demonstrating the technical prowess of the instrument along with its full range and colour. The slow middle section is a haunting slow melody that fades to a mere whisper towards the end which highlights the sensitivity of Perry’s beautiful warm sound.

Quicksilver will get its world premier at a special New Years concert at the start of 2011 in Holland. More details of the performance will emerge on this news page.
