Winning Performance
PLC piece helps B+R regain title …

Vitae Aeternum has not just been a regular item in the recent concerts by Black Dyke but was used by Richard Evans as he and Brighouse and Rastrick retained the Brass in Concert Championships 2007. As Young Composer in Association with Black Dyke Paul’s pieces are usually used exclusively by Black Dyke for a given period of time before going on general sale for other bands to play, this case was different.

Award winning conductor Richard Evans was booked to take Brighouse for the Brass in Concert Championships 2007 and while preparing his twenty minute programme came up with an idea. To make his programme unique and one that would be different from any other band’s he used mostly original music.

New arrangements were composed by B+R’s composer in residence Lee Baker, but Richard turned to his old friend and Black Dykes Principal Conductor Dr Nicholas Childs to ask permission to contact Paul about playing his new concert finale “Vitae Aeternum”.

Permission was granted and Vitae Aeternum was played as the finale to Brighouse’s contest programme to huge success as they won the contest.

Congratulations to Richard and Brighouse on their success. The DVD of the contest including the winning performance of Vitae Aeternum will be available from worldofbrass.com in 2008.
